Vacation Workouts

No gym? No BodyPump? No weights? WHAT AM I GOING TO DO?!?!

That was my original mindset going into two weeks of vacation. “There’s no way I’m going to remain consistent with my workouts,” I thought. I’ve come to find, though, that all ya gotta do is get creative.

I started out using exercise videos from YouTube. This is an amazing way to get a good workout in when the gym isn’t an option. I was using Millionaire Hoy’s Sweat HIIT 45 videos. But, I got to day 4 and a little thing called a data limit got in the way. Turns out I used 70% of my family’s data plan for July. Oops. Moral of the story– only use YouTube workouts while connected to wifi!


I had also used YouTube to do some cxworx (I do have the resistance tube, after all), but data limits don’t like that. I had to come up with a way to get some good workouts with no videos. So, onto Pinterest I went! As always, Pinterest had a lot to offer. With some slight modifications, I formed several high intensity cardio workouts to keep me in shape without LVAC!

Here are some of the workouts I’ve done this week. They mix strength and cardio to get the heart rate up and shape muscles! Remember to ALWAYS go at your own pace and modify the workout wherever you need to! Make it work for your fitness level.

Workout #1: HIIT

Workout #2: Tabata 

Workout #3: BootCamp 

Workout #4: Abs 
I’ve also been using an app called SworkIt to get some good cardio and strengthening in. I highly recommend it!


My resistance tube has allowed me to do some strength as well. It’s amazing how good of a muscle pump you can get with these tubes! Lots of the exercises are similar to the ones you do with weights, too.


As for running, I’ve been doing a teeny bit! While in Mingo, I haven’t run too much, as I’m not entirely sure of the safety of the area. But, I’m staying in Columbus for the weekend and I’ve gotten the chance to run a couple of times. I even ran last night less than an hour after eating Chinese takeout. This was NOT a good idea, don’t try it at home.


Other than that, I’ve gotten a ton of walking in! Lots of exploring Pittsburgh and the university = a ton of steps!


Working out on vacation isn’t as difficult as you might think. You just HAVE to have the motivation to do it! Keep your eye on the prize!

  1. Hi, I just found your blog, and your posts on how to stay fit on vacation are on point! I’m on vacation myself at the moment but I have got in my workout every single day so far! I got myself some 10l jugs of water to do some squats and deadlifts 😀 I love fitnessblender.com! Their videos are often strength+HIIT, so very effective in a short amount of time!

  2. No, never – there are just too many to choose from for me to make up my mind.
    I also use the sworkit app. I think it’s a great way to get a workout in!
    The vacation plan looks reasonable. I’m just a bit confused about the drinking your weight in ounces of water bit…oh…that’s probably your weight in pounds, right? I calculated what it would be if I use my weight in kg for the calculation and that wouldn’t be very much…

  3. Yes!!! I’ve been on vacation all summer and i’ve resorted to HIIT and pilates on youtube, and healthy eating because running around here seems a little shady. Blogilates and Tone It Up are my favorites!!
