My Favorite Time of the Day

Unlike many people, I am SUCH a morning person. I get really weird looks when I tell people that I set my alarm for 5:00am every day. The thought of getting up before noon on a summer day does not settle well with many teenagers. Well, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, I am in complete contrast to the average teenager (after all, what teen would even think about becoming a group fitness instructor?!) To me, life before the sun rises is just perfect.
Recently, I’ve fallen into a consistent morningly routine. Before my break from running, I would wake up each day, throw on some workout clothes, and head out for my daily run. Despite my month off, however, I still get up at the same time and go for walks. In fact, almost every morning this month, I have driven to the detention basin and gone for an hour walk around the trails and state park.

Why do I do this? Well, to be completely honest, I love it. This morning ritual, whether I’m running or walking, is kind of my daily dose of “me” time. It allows me to get outside and think about all that is happening in my life.

Okay, but why so early you might think. A couple of reasons. One, summertime in Vegas is absolutely brutal. The temperature has soured above 110 degrees several times so far this summer break (even reaching 115 a few days ago). Really, the only time to get outside and escape the heat is in the early morning. In fact, it’s already beginning to heat up by the time I finish my walk.

The second reason, and probably the biggest reason, is that the beauty at this time of morning is unbeatable. Imagine complete silence, only the sounds of the birds chirping, as you watch the sun rise above the mountains. This is what I experience each and every morning. It’s truly the most relaxing thing ever!

These morning walks have also become the perfect opportunity for me to listen to the BodyPump music and coach through the tracks in my head. I definitely see this becoming a permanent thing as I become an instructor. To me, studying is more effective while I am doing something active!

I always finish off my morning routine the same way: with a healthy and hearty breakfast (most often it’s eggs, Ezekiel toast, and a banana with AB)

And coffee. Can’t forget about the coffee!!!!!

The Starbucks French Roast is one of my all time favorites.

  1. Do you drink coffee before you run? And if so, do you think the caffeine helps with your performance? I’ve had coffee before but now i’m thinking it might help my running. But of course, i’m afraid of the “running trots” if I start to drink it! :0

    1. I’ve honestly never tried it right before a run! When I used to run in the afternoons, I would drink it in the morning (like 7 or 8 hours before). I used to have some stomach issues running in the afternoon, but I’m not 100% sure if that’s the coffee’s fault or something else! Lol

  2. I wake up super-early too! I like to set my alarm for 6:00, even though I’m usually awake by then anyways, naturally! I usually have skating practice in the morning, but if no, I like yoga and walking my dog. 🙂
