I am well aware of the difficulties that exist while living with…umm… “Less fitness minded” individuals. I mean, my sister will take down 3 donuts without flinching.
Don’t get me wrong, she’s not out of shape by any means! She has soccer practice or training about six times a week. She’s got quite a bit of muscle on her, and kicks some major butt on that soccer field. However, her eating habits are less than ideal. My own eating habits have started to rub off on my parents, but not my sister (yet, at least)!
My point to all this is that we love our families, we really do! But sometimes their eating habits can be dangerous to our fitness goals and achievements! So, we must fight the urge to devour those donuts that our family members might request for breakfast.
I know what you’re thinking. “Easier said than done, Will.” Here are some suggestions to help you through the diet disasters.
Always be prepared.
We’re ordering in tonight? Great. Let me just pop my yam in the microwave. In situations like these, I always have some salmon, yams, and almond butter at the ready. If you are stocked up on your healthy eats, you can easily opt out of eating unhealthy takeout meals with the rest of the family. If you fall unprepared, well, you better hope the family is in the mood for some Chipotle or Panera (or another semi health conscious establishment).

Consider your fitness goals.
If you think about all the progress you’ve made in the gym and with healthy eating, you’ll (hopefully) be less willing to shove a dozen donuts in your mouth. Keep your eye on the prize!

Try to give the “health” talk
No I’m not talking about the awkward health talk. I’m talking about the “this is why we need to eat clean” health talk. Yeah, your family might roll their eyes and tell you to go away, but it’s worth a shot!
Vacate the premises.
If all else fails, abort abort!! When the pizza arrives, it might just be time to retreat to your cave! Out of sight out of mind, am I right? Make up some excuse as to why you must separate yourself immediately! Be sure to bring some fruits and veggies with you.
But remember that it’s okay to indulge.
Every once in a while, it’s healthy to enjoy a treat with your family! Just don’t make it an everyday thing.
In other news, I am all packed and ready to go for this weekend! I’ll try my absolute hardest to get a post typed up for tomorrow to tell you all about it. But, Lord only knows how quickly I’ll crash after getting home! So, if I don’t talk to you tomorrow, I’ll be back on Monday!

Have a great weekend! 🙂
How about you?
- How do you resist the junk food that life throws at you sometimes?
- Are your family members health freaks or junk food lovers? (Or somewhere in between?)
- What are you up to this weekend?
