Brace yourselves. Will’s going on a health rant. Recently I’ve overhead many people at my school talking about going on diets. I won’t name names but NO BUENO!!
I may just be a young grasshopper in the health and fitness world, but I’ve read up a lot on this topic and heard it from several nutritionists: If you want to get in shape, dieting is NOT THE ANSWER! There are so many problems with diets I don’t even know where to begin.
First, some diets are excessively restrictive. The body requires fuel in order for you to carry out your daily activities. Not to mention, if you work out a lot, you need even more fuel. So, if you are following a diet that severely limits your carb or calorie intake, the body is being deprived of its energy source.
That’s a big whoop too. Not only will you be exhausted all the time, but your body will think it’s starving, lowering your metabolic rate.
If you drastically cut calories–as people often do when they diet–your body thinks it’s starving and it downregulates it needs at rest because it’s trying to conserve energy. -FitDay.com
So, your body will actually burn fewer calories, and this could plateu weight loss.
Another issue is that many will eat healthy for a set period of time, only to revert back to their old eating habits. Hate to break it to you, but if you go back to your old ways, expect to go back to your old weight as well.
Health is a lifestyle, not a 21 day thing! The best thing you can do is eat healthy most of the time, and treat yourself in moderation. You don’t have to totally deprive yourself in order to be healthy (and happy)!
Enough of my ranting 🙂 Here’s a few things from my pretty uneventful Monday!
Today is rest day aka I’m losing my mind day. I did let out some energy with an early morning walk though!
Before I left for school I had to take a quick selfie. Today is a big day, the weather has reached shorts and t-shirt temps! Please excuse my “Summer’s on its way yeeaaahhhhh buddy” face 😉
Whoever invented frozen quinoa steamer packs is a brilliant person. Frozen Mediterranean quinoa is an important part of my lazy lunches! I am so proud of everyone that ran in the Boston Marathon today! I have a huge amount of respect for all of the athletes that qualified. They are beasts!! A special shoutout to the Hungry Runner Girl who ran a 3:12:33!! Way to go!
Forgot to post last week’s workouts, so here they are! It was a pretty good week, I fit in 4 BodyPumps and 33 miles of running.
- Monday: 4 mi run, Ab Video
- Tuesday: 5 mi run, BodyPump
- Wednesday: BodyPump
- Thursday: 8 mi run, Abs
- Friday: 4 mi run, BodyPump, CxWorx
- Saturday: BodyPump, Cycling Class
- Sunday: 12 mi run, CXWorx
Total Mileage: 33 miles
How about you?
- What’s your favorite “only in moderation” food? (Mine would have to be Vanilla Lattes from Starbucks. So much sugar, but oh so good.)
- Are you happy or sad about the warm weather? (I have mixed feelings. Yay, summer is coming but boooo, running in the heat sucks.)
- Share something exciting about your Monday!
